How to Avoid Pesticide-Ridden Produce
When the Environmental Working Group tested potatoes, they found that 91% tested positive for pesticides. To avoid pesticides, you should buy organic. Either the bag will be labeled as organic, or you can check for a PLU code on the stickers stuck to your produce. According to Consumer Reports, a five digit code starting with the number 9 usually means the product is organic. Other frequently contaminated vegetables to watch out for are celery, spinach, sweet bell peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and hot peppers. Non-organic coffee, wine or chocolate may also contain pesticides.
