Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, as well one of the most common causes of knee and other joint pain. OA occurs when the cartilage, the connective tissue that cushions joints, begins to break down. Without this protective padding, bones can rub together causing pain. To prevent OA, keep your joints healthy by practicing low-impact cardio (swimming, bicycling, walking, hiking) and low-impact strength training (resistant bands). If you’re overweight, those extra pounds can greatly strain your joints, so start on a weight-loss plan.
